How to make a Weekday Waffle Bar!

You know what makes a weekday breakfast more fun? WAFFLES!

There’s something about waffles that makes breakfast feel fancy, don’t they? Maybe it’s just me. Growing up, the only time I had a big waffle breakfast was when my dad would take me out to the Sunday brunch and I’d order the belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream – yum!

Summer has been crazy chaotic for us, and I wanted my kids to have a fun breakfast this week, I knew waffles would be perfect. I thought I’d share a few things you can add to that dish of waffles to make it more fun, like a wafflebar!

Here’s what you need…

  • WAFFLES! You can use frozen ones, but I prefer to make nice big fluffy ones. If you don’t have a waffle iron, check this one out, it makes waffle sticks! They also have a mini version (here). You can use a pre-made box mix, or use my gluten free pancake recipe!
  • Toppings. I’d like to say the more the merrier (because that’s how I like my waffles) but it can get pretty messy with kids so I opted for fresh fruit, chocolate chips and syrup. Next time I’ll change up the fruit and add in whipped cream! You can really make an endless amount of combos and change up the toppings based on what fruits are in season.

Here’s what you do…

I premade a big batch of waffles for the week and keep the container in the fridge for easy reheating. But if you’re making this for one day, make the waffles right before you eat. It’s extra fun and festive if you serve up the toppings on a little tray – you don’t have to be fancy – you could even grab one from Dollar Tree! 😉 I served the waffles on a cake stand with the toppings all around, and the kids thought it was the coolest thing ever (their words!)

If you’re making a big batch like I did, or if you have some leftover to pack up, here is my trick for packing one grab and go container for the following day:

I simply put the clean berries in a small storage container (without a lid) inside a bigger one with the waffles. In the morning I can take the berries out, heat the waffles and serve within just a few minutes.

That’s that! A simple trick for making breakfast more fun without a ton of work. Do you have any fun ways to change up breakfast? If so, share them with me in the comments below.
